Deborah Norville was born in Dalton, Georgia on 8th August 1958 to Merle O. Norville and Zachary Samuel Norville. From 1979 to 1979, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. She also graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

She was an active member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and served on the Main Court of the University’s Student Judiciary. She graduated as a First Honor Graduate, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was the previous winner of the Junior Miss contest in her hometown and represented Georgia at the 1976 America’s Junior Miss pageant.

She even did a live interview in January 1979 with then-American President Jimmy Carter. After completing her education, she joined WAGA-TV in October 1979 as a full-time journalist. In 1982, she joined WMAQ-TV as a reporter. Later, she became an anchor. When she was going to join NBC News in New York in 1986, Harold Washington, then Chicago Mayor, declared Deborah Norville Week in Chicago.

In January 1987, she joined NBC News as an anchor for the TV news program “NBC News at Sunrise.” This caused ratings to rise by 40%. She was able to make a splash on NBC’s “The Today Show” in January 1987, as she was the anchor of “NBC News at Sunrise”, a television news program that focuses on current affairs.
